Wet field
So-called “wet fields” consisting of densely packed fibres, are sprayed with water to improve ball movement and reduce friction burns to players.
These are relatively expensive systems and installed at State Hockey Centres and a few additional locations where funding permits.
International and national competition is only played on “wet fields” such as the Poligras surface at the Sydney Olympics Centre at Homebush, the State Hockey Centre in Melbourne and at most other capital cities.
